Did you know that seven dollars can provide one needy person in Ethiopia with fresh water, changing their life forever? What do you usually do with seven dollars? Now, what if 7 people gave 7 dollars?
The 7x7 Challenge for Change is a simple way for every person to make a difference. As little as $7 can provide fresh water for one rural Ethiopian in need. We are challenging students to share this message with 7 different people, and to ask for their support through a $7 donation that will go towards changing a life of one of God’s children in need.
The challenge involves the following steps:
- Print 7 Fact Sheets and put them in an envelope. Use them to share the message of the Ethiopian water crisis with 7 different people.
- Ask each person for a $7 donation to change a life. Put it in the envelope.
- When you've shared the message with 7 people, mail in donations to Water to Thrive.
- You may create another envelope if you would like to continue and see how many people you can share the message with.
- You may also choose to “multiply” your 7x7 challenge by asking someone to join in the challenge.

Each year we celebrate our birthday. We rejoice in the significance of life. At the same time we are celebrating life, many less fortunate around the world are experiencing death. Without the basic needs we take for granted, their lives are cut short. One Ethiopian child in 10 dies before the age of 5 due to unclean drinking water. To provide fresh water to 400 Ethiopians, the cost of a well is as little as $3,500 dollars – such a small amount but the impact is so great.
By donating your birthday to Water to Thrive, your birthday can give the blessing of life, by giving many more birthdays to those who wouldn’t have experienced one more.
The program is simple, but the impact is profound. Instead of receiving birthday gifts for yourself, ask your friends and family to give to Water of Thrive in your name. As you spread the word that you are donating your birthday to such a worthy cause, those who love and support you will broaden the impact you will make in saving lives.
