About the Campaign

About 500,000 Ethiopian children die before the age of 5. One out of every 10 children never has a firstbirthday. Water-related disease is the single biggest killer of infants and the principal cause of illness in adults in Ethiopia. Only 12% of the rural population of Ethiopia has access to safe drinking water and 7% to basic sanitation. The water crisis also stagnates the overall development of the country. Women and girls spend hours every day collecting water from distant sources, and in addition are expected to cook, collect firewood, tend fields and care for the sick. Girls could be attending school.

Water To Thrive has already provided about 265 wells in Ethiopia since its beginning, just four years ago. Ethiopia Friends can have their own well in Ethiopia for just $5,000. Let’s make some difference in our friends’ lives.
