About the Campaign
Led by Wartburg’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE), the college is partnering with Water to Thrive to improve the lives of individuals who have no access to clean water. During the 2011-12 academic year, these efforts funded four fresh-water wells. We recognize all who supported Water to Thrive by promoting awareness and raising funds. Thanks to Waverly-Shell Rock High School, Waverly, Iowa (fundraisers led by two high school seniors); St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver, Iowa (least coin offering); Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fontanelle, Iowa (donations from local crop harvest); St. Peter Lutheran Church, Denver, Iowa (Christmas offering); St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Waverly, Iowa (Mrs. Lisa Rupp’s third grade class); St. John Lutheran Church of Western Douglas, Plainfield, Iowa (Vacation Bible School); and Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa (Walk for Water, Culture Week, CultureFest, and Benefit Night).
With additional support from partners that include Davis Projects for Peace, the CCE’s goal for 2013 is to fund six more wells. All donations go directly to Water to Thrive. As Wartburg continues to deepen engagement through a commitment to local and global partnerships, civic mindedness, and lifelong learning, we invite you to join us in providing clean, safe water to the people of rural Africa.
