12 Fun Fundraising Ideas

It’s summer, so let’s get our creative juices flowing and think of some ways to campaign for a water well!
In order to get you started, we want to spotlight some successful and unique fundraising ideas for all ages.

 1. Have a Bake Sale: Mostly just because who doesn’t want some yummy treats? You could bake cookies, brownies, cupcakes, cakes… you name it! Sell them to your neighbors, your family, your friends, local stores and coffee shops, anyone. Then, wrap up the treat and tape the water to thrive logo onto it if you want to go above and beyond. If you aren’t into baked goods, have a lemonade stand! It’s Texas, it’s summer, and it’s HOT. Plus, everyone loves lemonade!

2. Cold Water Challenge: If you’re on Facebook, then you’ve probably seen a Cold Water Challenge video on your newsfeed. Basically, you call out several friends and challenge them to donate a certain amount of money to your charity of choice (Your Water to Thrive campaign) by the end of the week. The catch is that if they choose not to donate, they have to somehow be immersed in cold water. I’ve seen people jump in baby pools filled with ice water, swimming pools in the winter, etc. The Cold Water Challenge is new and super popular, so get creative and call out some friends to donate… your video could go viral!

3. Have a Profit Share: Team up with a restaurant or store to have a profit share. Set up an afternoon or night where that restaurant/store agrees to give a percentage of everyone’s purchases to Water to Thrive. Then invite EVERYONE you know (and everyone they know, and everyone they know….)  to come eat or shop during that time. It’s a great way to fundraise!

4. Put on a Concert: Have some musical talent? Find a coffee shop, a living room, or a park where you can have your own concert! You could charge an entry fee, or just collect donations in order to fund your campaign. If you don’t have musical talent, but you want to show off something… consider hosting a talent show and having friends, family, or community members all participate.

5. Start a Matching Campaign: This kind of campaign isn’t for everyone, but it’s SUPER successful. While you fundraise, tell everyone that you will MATCH whatever amount they donate to your well. So if someone donates $50, then you also have to donate $50. This kind of campaign is great because people are willing to contribute even more when they know their money is being matched and their impact is being doubled!

6. BINGO Night: Have a community-wide BINGO night, but instead of using the letters B-I-N-G-O, use W-A-T-E-R. Post flyers around your neighborhood, school, town , etc. inviting people to come and play BINGO with you. Then, you can charge an entry fee to play the game! If you’re younger (Or just not very interested in BINGO), you could have a Spelling Bee instead! The spelling bee could consist of only water-related words, which can actually get very challenging! Just because spelling bees are usually geared toward younger kids doesn’t mean adults can spell words like "tsunami" or "diarrhea" either…

7. Have a Car Wash: Ideally, you could get permission to set up your car wash somewhere public that many people drive by. The money you make from charging people to wash their cars can go straight to your campaign fund!

8. Make a Friendship Pact: Gather a group of friends or family members and make an agreement to give up eating out (Yes, that includes your Starbucks!) for a certain amount of time. Then, have everyone donate the money that they would have spent on food, drinks, etc. to your campaign.

9. Host a Backyard Water Party: You and all of your friends can beat the summer heat by throwing water balloons, shooting water guns, slipping down the slip-and-slide, or running through the sprinklers. Just have everyone make a donation to your campaign, then have fun! It can be a birthday party (no presents, just donations), a neighborhood summer party, etc.

10. Take the No Shower Pledge: This one isn’t for the faint of heart. I’m hesitant to even add this one for the sake of your friends and family…. but that’s exactly why this kind of campaign works! Pledge not to take a shower until you have reached your campaign goal. You heard me! This way you’re motivated to fundraise as quickly as possible, and the people around you are VERY motivated to contribute. If you happen to be even more hardcore, agree to shave your head if you reach your campaign goal!

11. Plan a Walk-A-Thon or Run-A-Thon: This can be for your school, your company, your community, whoever! Think of a group that might be interested in participating in a contest to see who can walk or run the most laps around a track (or a field/premade route if you don’t have access to a track). Have each participant find sponsors who agree to donate a certain amount of money for every lap the contestant completes. This is an awesome way to fundraise while also getting to be active and outdoors!

Last but not least… my personal favorite!

12: Tape Up Your Teacher: This can be a classroom event, or you could make it school-wide. Students can tape their teacher or principal to the wall of their school! The students pay for each piece of tape they use, and the end result is hilarious! Here are some pictures from Waverly Shell Rock High School to prove it!

These are just some of the interesting ways you can have fun and campaign at the same time! Keep thinking of ideas and contact us if you want to start a campaign or hear more information. DREAM BIG!
