Today’s is an exciting day for the group……it is our first day in the field, experiencing first hand with the communities the impact of clean water. We take an early morning flight from Lalibella to Axum, where we are met by implementing partners, Glimmer of Hope and REST (Relief Society of Tigray).  These partners are special to W2T because they have been with us on our journey from Day 1 in 2008.  We have learned so much from their wisdom……..

We are in the field just before lunch and we are able to visit four projects, before spending some time to do some sightseeing and shopping in the late afternoon.  The projects a one shallow bore hole (May Sebel) and three hand dug wells (May-ela/Tslansi 1 &2, and May Grar).

As always, we are greeted by the community with open arms and warm hearts.  These are the greatest moment of trips, connecting with the communities and sharing our gratitude and blessings with each other.  At both May Sebel and May-ela/Teslansi we are meet by throngs of school children.  Both projects are within short walking distance of a primary school, so the children in the school are some of direct beneficiaries from the new water source.

We take time with each community to discuss the impact of the project and their participation in the sustainability of the projects. And we join with them in celebrating clean water………..

John is enjoying getting to know more of the children at May-ela Tslansi,

Pat and Bo join in with the community members helping to fill their jerry cans!

Lizzie get to try carry a real jerry can from the project site.

At May ela Tslansi we get to have a great conversation with the elders of the area about their current circumstances with water coverage.  The two wells that were just completed by W2T/REST are the only clean water source for over 700 families that live in area of the village.  That is a total population of approximately 3,500. Because there are so many community communities members using the projects, they are forced to limited the amount of water that each family can gather each day so that all may be served every day. After several minutes of discussion, we were able to agree upon a plan among the local government water bureau, REST and W2T to plan additional projects to serve the community in our 2015 budgets.

Nearby where we are having the discussion, we are reminded instantly why this mission of clean water is so important.

Above is the prior contaminated water source that the community at May ela Tslansi was forced to use for their families.  Now it is only used for watering livestock.

Because of the caring hearts of the hundreds of sponsors of the water projects at May Sebel, May ela/Tslansi 1&2 and May Grar, the children and all the community members are enjoying the blessing of clean water.
