After a night of eating and dancing (see picture of John below!) we woke up ready to worship alongside our brothers and sisters in Addis. When we arrived at church, a baptism was occurring. Soon after, the children sang for us and so did the church choir. We had the opportunity to introduce ourselves as guests…all the way from America!
Lunch consisted of Italian food—pizza and pasta—although our appetizer was foccacia bread (yes, Italian) and guacamole (yes, Mexican). We found the humor in Texans eating Italian bread with Mexican dip in ETHIOPIA!
We were off to Ambo after lunch, which is about 2 hours from Addis. Dinner was special because we met with our NGO in the area, as well as Bishop Luichese from Mekane Yesus. Bishop Luichese presented W2T with wonderful gifts at the dinner, as seen below.
We rose early in our hotel that was built in 1949. Needless to say, the plumping could use a few upgrades! But, the charm of the lush surroundings makes up for any scarcity of amenities. We joined our water partners, Central Gibe Synod…and Bishop Luichese.
After a two hour drive and about half an hour of gravel and dirt roads…we arrived at our well first site for the day. It was a spring protection well. The rains have been early in Ethiopia, so the area is lush for us to enjoy. Farmers are working on their crops, as well.
Each of the five communities we saw today welcomed us with singing and dancing. While visiting the fourth site, rain began and we got out with some difficulty. There were men pulling our trucks with rope (from the front) and pushing us (from the back). Eventually, we made it up every slippery hill to our hotel. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s adventure!
