Hi there! My name is Jesseca Hemminger, and I am super excited to be working with Water to Thrive as an intern. I recently graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a molecular focus.

While at TLU, I was able to work on campus as a supplemental instructor, which sparked my passion for teaching and helping students understand concepts. This inspired me to want to continue my education and teach in higher education one day. In the spring of 2023, I plan to begin a Ph.D. program in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, where I can continue to learn and find deeper meaning in my field of study. Between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work as an intern for Water to Thrive.

Through all four years of my undergrad, I was a part of the TLU chapter of Water to Thrive and even served as the president for three years. Water to Thrive provided me with a deeper understanding of how essential clean water is, as well as allowing me to serve a greater purpose. With this chapter, I was able to help with multiple on-campus events, put together three annual benefit dinners and silent auctions, and raise enough money to put towards building three wells. I was extremely fortunate to be able to work with other students at TLU and deepen my connections with various staff members.

I decided I wanted to do an internship with Water to Thrive after talking with a member of the team in the spring. I was able to meet two members of the Water to Thrive team at the TLU Water to Thrive 12th annual silent auction and benefit dinner and discussed the possibility of an internship with them. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time!

As an intern, I plan on engaging and educating the community more about the importance of clean water. Every second week I will be posting a blog about a different disease, condition, or issue that is prevalent in areas with a lack of access to clean water. I want to be able to raise awareness of the need for clean water but also educate people about how the lack of clean water can affect our bodies. I am so thankful for finding Water to Thrive and truly blessed to be supporting the cause in a way that allows me to do what I am passionate about!
